Astabuen (SR 153, 7/2) is the highest-rated runner in the field and has seen significant market support — shortening 14% from opening price — which on a 10-runner novice at Class 3 is a meaningful endorsement from those with inside knowledge. Ed Walker operates at a solid 16% strike rate, and George Downing at 10% is acceptable for a juvenile novice. The SR 153 mark dwarfs all but Lots Road (SR 152) and is 7-9 points clear of the next cluster. While distance and going fitness are unproven for most runners here, the market's strong vote for Astabuen over Lots Road — which has drifted significantly despite an even stronger SR — gives the edge to Astabuen. Its single run (a third-place finish) at Class 3 keeping the same class designation confirms it is already racing at an appropriate level. Each-way alternative: Lots Road.
