Mr Fox’s call
Granlahan
SPECULATIVE Advised 11/2 Est. 22%
Mr Fox says
Granlahan (SR:86, 11/2) is the highest-rated horse in the field and has the most consistent recent form — a 362422 sequence that shows sustained competitiveness without a blowout run. At 10-12, he carries one of the lighter weights in the field, giving him a real lbs advantage over rivals with similar or lower SRs. The DistFit:~ and GoingFit:~ suggest he is not proven but not out of his depth at 2m1f on good ground, and trainer Adrian McGuinness (9%) has form at this level. The 24% market drift is a concern worth noting, but in a wide-open 19-runner field with no dominant shortener, the SR edge and weight profile make Granlahan the most defensible selection; the drift may simply reflect the yard running stablemate Bryson as the market's preferred option despite Bryson's far weaker SR and poor DistFit/GoingFit. Each-way alternative: Footstepstoglory. Main danger: Footstepstoglory — Footstepstoglory (SR:77, 7/2) has steamed in 26% from opening and carries only 11-4, giving it a lighter weight than Granlahan for a marginally lower SR — the market is backing it hard and it is the most likely beneficiary if Granlahan's going/distance uncertainty materialises on the day.
