Mr Fox’s call
Frisco Lad
MEDIUM Advised 15/8 Est. 35%
Mr Fox says
Frisco Lad (SR:121, 15/8) is the standout on every meaningful metric in this field. His SR of 121 leads the field by 14 points over Sharbel (SR:107) and is well clear of the rest, and he carries 11-10 — the same as Hill Silver but with a substantial ability edge over that rival. His sole run produced a win, and the market has firmed 9% since opening, confirming professional confidence. In an amateur/bumper-style flat race at Punchestown over 2m, Henry de Bromhead (16% strike rate, 2,377 runners) is a powerful operation and Mr J L Gleeson rides at a 19% career strike rate — a strong booking. No distance or going fit data exists for any runner here given all are lightly raced, but Frisco Lad's superiority in SR and the market move give him a clear edge over an otherwise weak field. Each-way alternative: Sharbel. Main danger: Sharbel — Sharbel (SR:107, 4/1) has shortened 8% in the market, is ridden by Mr P W Mullins whose 33% career strike rate is exceptional for an amateur, and trainer Peter Fahey (11% strike rate) is a competent handler — the combination of jockey quality and market support makes him the most credible threat to the favourite.
